How to Practice Mindfulness: Paulina's Version!

Mindfulness is the practice of bringing your attention fully into the present moment. It doesn’t require special tools—just intention.

Start With Your Senses

Take a few moments to notice what you can see, hear, smell, taste, and feel. Label each sensation without judging it.

Use and Practice Mindful Moments

Bring mindfulness into everyday activities. Feel the warm water as you wash your hands. Notice the textures of your food as you eat. Feel the air on your face as you walk your dog.

Try Short Meditation Sessions

Begin with just one to three minutes. Focus on your breath, and when your mind wanders—as it naturally will—gently return.

Be Kind to Yourself

Mindfulness isn’t about doing it “right.” It’s about noticing with curiosity instead of criticism.

Over time, mindfulness builds emotional resilience and helps quiet mental chatter.

And remember, the journey from the head to the heart is the longest, yet most important one you will go on. Don't rush yourself.

If you need help learning how to be mindful, feel free to book an appointment with me. I offer clinical counselling in the lower mainland with specialties in Indigenous folks and young adults — struggling with anxiety, depression, inter generational trauma, adhd and autism.

I recognize with gratitude that the communities I serve — including Port Moody, Coquitlam, Surrey, Vancouver, and the greater Lower Mainland — exist on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, which include the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō, and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. As a counsellor, I acknowledge the strength, wisdom, and resilience that continue to flow through these lands and the people who have cared for them since time immemorial. In my work, I strive to honour these histories by creating a space rooted in respect, healing, and genuine connection.
